babybirdistheword asked: Hi there! You have a beautiful family :)
I'd like to ask you a question about choosing Isla's name... my husband and I THINK we've finally decided on Isla if we have a girl, however in my usual paranoid, overthinking fashion.. i keep on wondering.. will she have trouble with the silent S?? I remember being 6 years old and being SOOOO confused with the word ISLAND on the...

I need to get gushy for a moment.
Internet? World? I don’t know where to start.
Much like Isla has been withholding with her problem, I’ve been doing the same by not talking about it until very recently. But after that post, I’m left speechless.
The outpouring of genuine support, care, concern, empathy, encouragement, understanding, humour, suggestion and downright sisterhood has left me nothing short of...

And then we spent the night together...
Two nights before her birthday, we ended up taking Isla to the hospital. As you can see, she was thrilled. Not.
I kept pretty quiet about it because I didn’t really know what to say - I’m not one to talk about poop and that’s exactly what the issue was. It wasn’t a life or death situation by any means, but it also wasn’t one I really knew where to start on. It felt...
Zzzzzzzzzonked!
I’ve been all over the place lately with sessions and meetings and conferences and trade shows and parenting and… oh, my. I’m very excited for the craziness to end in less than 48 hours, at the conclusion of Blissdom Canada. Don’t get me wrong! So blessed and so excited for all I get to do, but wow… I’m just six ways from Sunday short of being burned out!
So...
Scary cake flag aside...
And obviously there was cake...
Oh, Isla’s birthday cake. How you taunted me.
In the end, Auntie Amz stepped in to save the day! As per usual :)
Except the bunting flag. I managed to bugger that up all by myself.
See, I wanted one of these:
but I was on a time constraint and the shop is temporarily closed. And, did I mention I was on a time constraint? I needed one fast, and I kept putting it off. And then I...

Birthday Presies!
Isla was beyond blessed with some absolutely beautiful and thoughtful gifts from family and friends to celebrate her first birthday. Hamish and I also had some gifts for her and we spent all of Friday night before getting them ready.
Hamish and I have never been able to say the only toys Isla would have would be wooden, fair trade, carbon neutral, etc. etc. But we do like toys that are smart in...
*Sooo* Big! Isla's the Birthday Girl today!
I had this lovely post all written and then my computer crashed. I’m going to take it as a sign to get off this chair, go see if Birthday Girl is awake yet and get out to enjoy this beautiful day with her and Hamish. (It could also be taken as a sign that I need a new computer after this summer of shenanigans?!)
Hope everyone has a great day! We’re on Cloud 9 as for ourselves :)
Snippets of our Canadian Thanksgiving
Nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like a good dim sum brunch downtown!
That’s more like it! At the local county fair.
I had no idea these horse shows involved so much glitter, by the by.
I love my husband. He loves hats. But I do not love my husband in hats. It’s on my veto list.
That side eye I’m on the business end of in the background? Hamish did the same thing....
Bothered.
I had such an awesome weekend. And I will continue to be happy and thankful for such an awesome weekend. I try to keep it sunshine and roses on here, but one thing about yesterday is really, really bothering me and it’s not even related to Isla’s possessed toy (more on that later) or the jerkface who nearly ran us over on the way home, after dinner (none on that later).
We decided...

Family Photos | Cavendish Beach, PEI
The problem with being a photographer is that we have all this equipment, a passion for the art of it and memories in the making. But what we don’t (usually) do is travel with the tripod and the remote. Stuffy posed photos aren’t my style, anyway, so even that concept doesn’t work like it could.
What we do get are snippets as we pass the camera around and carry on about our...
Isla and I have
a business meeting / play date with probably the world’s most patient friend and her daughter at 10:30. It’s 10:38 and Isla’s out cold still. (foot tapping)
I feel like I’m just constantly late for everything right now always. Or I’m *really* early for our meeting next time. Either way, I think I should go wake her up.
Hello, my name is Smelly
My father has called me Smelly since I was a freshly baked baby. Not because of any diaper related tendencies, but rather because he *liked* the way I smelled, all baby fresh. We all know that smell. That sweet baby nectar…
Tonight after a particularly sloppy dinner at the fam’s, my dad wet a face cloth and handed it to me. He said “here’s a cloth to wipe her (meaning...
October 5th
Today would have been my grandfather’s birthday and was also one of Isla’s due dates. I miss him too much to type and it’s just easier if I bristle along because among my many life skills, coping with loss isn’t one of them.
So, now that that’s taken care of - moving along, nothing to see here — here are some pictures of Isla in a kilt at Peggy’s Cove,...
The *strangest* morning where I woke up with a...
Isla is in the belly of the fire when it comes to cutting these new teeth. I am a horrible mother because I don’t know for sure which ones are coming in; I’m not brave enough to stick my finger in there. I tried to give her a piece of soft bread so she’d make a bite impression on it (crafty, I thought!) but she bit it completely and ate it so that failed. Her soon-to-be-dentist...

Yog-aaaahhhhhhhhhh
It’s not the easiest, but it’s necessary in my day. I’m actually embarrassed how badly I need yoga on the daily. It can get to the point where Hamish or any number of my family members can *tell*, gently asking, “so… erm, have you done your stretches yet today?” It takes my mood and mind leaps and bounds.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m no yogi over here,...
Continue to Checkout | Fall Edition
So, the other week Gap Canada launched (yay!) and had FREE SHIPPING (double… hell, triple yay!) and then had 40% your total purchase (“might as well run a lap around the block” yay!). I snapped up these for Isla’s fall/winter/just because wardrobe.
Isla’s snowsuit.
Isla’s fall coat.
A lil’ drop waist dress.
My new “uniform”.
...
Yeah, about that...
I’m short by 3/4 cup of flour. And I just spilt brown sugar all over the floor. :/
But there *is* a bag of Oreos here just waiting to be entertained. Lemons, meet your lemonade.
Gosh, I hope this the final punctuation to *last* week and not a sign of the week to come!
C is for COOKIE
It’s been a strange weekend of bad weather, a beautiful wedding full of interesting sub-events, day dreaming about Nuit Blanche since we didn’t get to attend this year, and tons of snugs with the jam face.
But when I skimmed through Google Reader and saw my friend Andrew had shared THESE AMAZING MASH UP COOKIE CREATIONS, I instantly text messaged Hamish to bring home the ingredients...
